Just acquired six gnarly logs of hawthorn, diameters from eight inches to OMG large, variable lengths. Would love to know how you managed to keep the blank whole for that lovely bowl!

    • Indeed, a good question. I’ve only done three pieces of hawthorn, all around 8″. One of them checked—-well, split–in a mighty way, even though I anchor-sealed it and had (seemingly) done everything by the book. About the only thing I might suggest is to stay away from having the log’s center ring right at the bowl edge. I.e., maybe a shallower bowl? That’s all I can think of right now. Good luck!

  2. Actually, I just noticed from this photo that this is the one that split! Oh, well…
